Stay in the heart of the Douro for the Wine and Port lover

The Wine & Port lover probably already knows them: Quinta do Passadouro, Quinta do Noval, Quinta do Bomfim, Quinta da Cavadinha, Quinta de Terra Feita. And many others. Big names of wine estates from renowned Port houses. All found in the Pinhão Valley. The Pinhão river, which meanders through this landscape, gave name to the village of Pinhão, where it flows into the Douro.

The new generation

New companies have settled here, such as Quinta do Portal. Young winemakers have bought small vineyards here and produce wines that are among the top in the world. Names like Poeira and Pintas for example. But Dirk Niepoort also makes one of his wines here, Charme. Old, renowned families who in the past were suppliers of the traditional port houses have also started to market wine and port under their own name. A good example is the house Vieira de Sousa. Jean-Hugues Gros was once recruited as the winemaker of a winery in Tabuaço. Now he advises ten wineries and makes his own wine under the name Odisseia. Nowadays there are also winemakers who operate in multiple wine regions, for example the guys from Portugal Boutique Winery with wines such as Boina and Gorro.

From our centrally located house in the valley of the Pinhão river, various activities can be undertaken in the heart of the port area, including visiting a number of these producers.
